EXPERIENCE: Sports Law

We have used our law skills while working for a hockey equipment company, the NHL, CFL, and a minor professional baseball club. Members of our team have also enjoyed representing professional and amateur athletes.

Some of those legal services include the following:

• Research and prepare arbitration briefs, and appear at salary arbitrations on behalf of NHL Member Clubs to present the Club’s salary arbitration case.
• Advised NHL general managers and staff on the standing of certain NHL Players under the NHL Collective Bargaining Agreement.
• Sports agent for professional and amateur athletes.
• Advised professional sports franchises on corporate commercial, merchandising, licensing, intellectual property, taxation, government relations and labour law issues.
• Exclusive counsel to a minor professional baseball club.
• Providing all advice including litigation, corporate, commercial, intellectual property, internal league issues and by-laws, labour, and merchandising for a professional baseball team.
• Participating in the sale and structuring of a CFL Football Member Club into a limited partnership.
• Advising a hockey skate development company with regard to the sale or licensing of their patented technology to a worldwide sports equipment manufacturer.
• Advising an amateur organization that promotes the Olympics and winter sports.
