The Law In Plain English: FAMILY LAW / DIVORCE
To get a divorce a couple has to rely on one of three circumstances:
- Separation (living apart for more than one year)
- Adultery
- Cruelty
Whether a couple falls within one of these circumstances is a matter of law that will be determined based upon the specific circumstances of each case. While asking your spouse to turn off the hockey game and run some errands at the store is indeed cruel, it probably isn’t grounds for a divorce!
